On the circumference of the base the initials of Louis Napoleon, known as Napoleon III, must have been made for a solemn mass for Napoleon III.

On the wrong cup Faith, Hope and Charity
On the knot, the heads of angels in high relief
On the base the Crucifixion, the Ecce Homo and the Last Supper
Beautiful paten engraved with an IHS
